Malaysia’s inflation remains at 2 pct in June

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Xinhua) — Malaysia’s inflation rate remained at 2 percent in June, official data showed Wednesday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement that the increase in inflation was driven by growth in the main groups of restaurant and accommodation services with 3.3 percent, and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with 3.2 percent, personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services with 2.8 percent, and food and beverages with 2 percent.
Inflation for transport increased 1.2 percent in the cited month.
The overall monthly inflation for June saw a rise of 0.2 percent.
Furthermore, core inflation rate remained at 1.9 percent in June, the same rate as recorded in May. ■
