Maharashtra’s Shivneri buses to have hostesses

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced the introduction of “Shivneri Sundari”, a new initiative aimed at elevating the passenger experience on e-Shivneri buses operating between Mumbai and Pune. Under this initiative, each bus will have a trained hostess to cater to the needs of passengers during the journey.
“Shivneri buses operating on the Mumbai-Pune route will now offer enhanced hospitality services through the ‘Shivneri Sundari’ initiative, modelled after in-flight services. Passengers will receive high-quality assistance at no extra cost. MSRTC also plans to introduce an innovative scheme in the future to further improve service standards,” MSRTC stated in an official statement.
Shinde Sena MLA Bharat Gogawale announced the decision to appoint hostesses on Shivneri buses running on the Mumbai-Pune route during the 304th Corporation meeting.
Shinde Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat defended the decision, stating, “The opposition is criticising this move without reason. We’re investing in new buses and improving the ST Corporation. If women are gaining employment, what’s the harm?”
However, Shiv Sena UBT spokesperson Anand Dubey criticised the initiative, remarking, “Instead of comparing ST bus services to aeroplanes, the focus should be on improving basic services. The condition of the buses needs attention. Passengers want to reach their destinations on time, not experience hotel-like services.”
